Koromanti and the North Star is a band named after the first recorded instance of Afro-diasporic music. The name speaks to the band's desire to dig up and revive the African roots of folk music and reflects the sonic ways the band shows how that music arrived in Mi'kma'ki. Featuring old time strings and West African percussion Koromanti and the North Star lifts up forgotten African roots, blues, gospel and folk songs from across the diaspora and blends them with ancestral sounds.
